Bar Spacing
It’s not just the size of the cage that is important. Also, pay attention to how far apart the bars are. The bars should be close enough so that birds can chew them without difficulty and their heads won’t poke out.
For most conures, the spacing between bars should be approximately 5/8 inch and 3/4 inch. The closer the bars are, the better. If you want your pet to stay in their cages, make sure they are not trying to escape.
It is rare to find cages made from materials that aren’t safe for birds. It is your responsibility as their caretaker to confirm that. You should verify with the seller or company the metal or paint used to make the bars. They will chew them almost incessantly and quickly become sick if they don’t feel safe.

Your conure’s cage should measure 24 inches in width, 24 inches high, and 24 inches deep. A stand-up cage gives your conures more space to explore and allows you to give them exciting toys.
To keep your conures happy, if you have a large one, such as a Patagonian Conure you will need a bigger minimum cage dimension of 30 by 30 inches.
Curious Conures
Conures, like all intelligent parrots, will seek out ways to escape from their enclosure and move on into the world. To keep them safe, make sure they have access doors and feeders that lock out the outside.
You should also ensure that they have plenty of toys and the right size cage. If you need more space or your pet spends time outside, a play top enclosure is an option. You can get them to chew toys and cuddle toys, and they’ll be happy as long as you have the toys.
